Drafting Our Next Teammate
Legendary Wisconsin football player Mark Tauscher teams up with the credit union to help student-athletes achieve financial wellbeing.

Having lived my whole life in Wisconsin, it’s important to me to support companies that support the state and that's a big reason why I joined UW Credit Union. They’ve been part of Wisconsin for a long time – almost 95 years – and are very involved in the community.
Signing up was a lot simpler than I anticipated. There's this idea that switching financial institutions is going to be some big undertaking, but it totally wasn’t. I went into the Monroe Street branch across from Camp Randall, got signed up and immediately got all of the perks that come with being a member.
I had several different folks guiding me through the process. Having a great team, from a sports standpoint, is something I treasure and the great team at UW Credit Union really stands out.
My wife and I also enjoy the ease of banking with UW Credit Union – she’s really excited about how convenient the Mobile App makes managing our finances. There are also so many locations between the greater Dane County area and the Milwaukee area, for when you want to go in and talk with someone.
One of my favorite things about UW Credit Union, beyond the great banking experience and membership perks, is their T-shirt cannon. It’s the largest in college athletics and I have been pushing hard for my opportunity to shoot T-shirts from the press box during a Badger game. Maybe next season?
I’ve always appreciated UW Credit Union’s support of Wisconsin Athletics™ but more recently I’ve been seeing their logo at all of these different events and noticing just how supportive they are of the communities they serve, especially students and student-athletes.
As a former right tackle on the Badgers, I understand the ins and outs of being a student-athlete. Even though there’s such a different playing field in athletics now, needing to learn life lessons like financial literacy and time management has stayed consistent.
When I was a student-athlete, there wasn't a ton of financial stuff coming in because NIL (name, image and likeness) deals didn’t exist. I was just trying to figure things out and prepare for professional football. You have a lot of different people coming at you from different angles, especially once you start earning money. I was fortunate to be drafted by the green and gold and to have the experiences I did.
Now I’m paying it forward by having discussions with current student-athletes about what NIL looks like and helping them prepare for the future financially. There’s a lot of money coming in and you want to make sure you're managing it well because you don't know when your last snap is going to be.
Prepare yourself for success both on the field and off. Making sure you're with the right financial institution makes a big difference. It's been awesome being a member.
UW Credit Union is a proud partner of Wisconsin Athletics™. Founded in 1931 on the University of Wisconsin-Madison campus by people passionate about helping people, UW Credit Union is a steady and strong financial institution that continues to work side by side with the university.
