Tips for Using Your Credit Card

When used wisely, your credit card is a helpful budgeting tool that offers money- and time-saving benefits.

Consider these practical tips to make the most of your credit card:

  • Pay off your balance. Avoid paying interest by paying your balance in full each month.
  • Don’t skip payments. If you can’t pay off your full balance, make at least the minimum monthly payment to avoid late fees.
  • Keep credit usage low. Help improve your credit score by avoiding using your maximum credit limit.
  • Protect yourself from fraud. Sign up for Notifications to receive alerts on your card activity. Notify UW Credit Union immediately of any suspicious activity.
  • Make a balance transfer. If you have high-rate balances elsewhere, transfer them to your UW Credit Union card to save on interest.
